Estonian NeilPryde Baltic Cup troubled surfers with great beach weather

While the weather conditions on Tallinn Bay were perfect for holidaymakers and sunbathers, the surfers at the highlevel Estonian NeilPryde Baltic Cup regatta would have wished for stronger winds. On the second day of racing, only Raceboard and Techno293 were able to race. Formulas and Formula Kites attempted but had to stop due to lack of wind.

The second day of the regatta began with southwest wind of 2-4 m/s, which only enabled the centreboard classes Raceboard and Techno293 to race. Both classes managed to do two good races with the small wind. In midday, the wind somewhat increased and Formula and Formula Kite surfers had a start with wind that was close to minimum level. The wind managed to remain at 4-6 m/s during the race but unfortunately died down during the last downwind. Formulas stopped and Formula Kites collapsed into the water. The race had to be halted, as Formulas and Formula Kites cannot race with wind under 4m/s. Raceboards and Techno293-s managed to hold more races and completed 4 and 3 races respectively by the end of the day.

In Raceboard class, at the end of the second day of racing and after 8 races Lithuanian Vytautas Celesius is in the lead with 10 points, followed by Estonian Rainer Kasekivi (15 points) and Latvian Kristaps Keidans (17 points). Yesterday’s leader, Estonian Marcus Pertelson was disqualified from the 2ndrace as a result of a protest, and fell to current 5thplace overall.

Youth Techno 293 class continues to be ruled by the Poles – Bartosz Pawlowski with 9 points and Lidia Sulikowska 17 points. After the second day of racing, the TOP 3 now also includes a Latvian – Aleksandra Kaupa rose to the third position with also 17 points.

As Formula and Formula Kite could not complete any races today, the first day’s standing still applies. In Formula Latvian Janis Press has a strong lead with 4 points, followed by Estonian Erno Kaasik (12 points) and Latvian Maris Birzulis (17 points). In Formula Kite, Lithuanian Viktoras Šeputa also leads with the perfect score 4 points, followed by Estonians Ranno Rumm with 8 points and Madis Kallas with 13 points.
